Maria Farina

My artistic journey has taken many forms over the years, from drawing and creative writing to music, teaching and watercolor painting. I was selected as a child to study art through a special program at the Carnegie Museum of Art, which laid the foundation for my lifelong love of visual expression. Later, I spent 20 years as a radio disc jockey in Cleveland, then returned home to Pittsburgh, where creativity once again became the center of my life.

Today, I’m a watercolor artist, author of two cozy supernatural murder mystery novels (with a third in progress), and an active musician playing clarinet in a community concert band and piano for my own pleasure. While each creative outlet feeds a different part of me, watercolor has become a deeply peaceful and meditative practice, one that I love sharing with others.

My approach to both art and teaching is rooted in curiosity, encouragement and joy. I believe creativity should feel welcoming, not intimidating, and that art has the power to slow us down in a very busy world.
